Four remanded over Pouderoyen armed robbery

Four men were yesterday remanded to prison when they appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of seven counts of robbery under arms.

 

Gary Beckles, 26, of North Ruimveldt; Troy Green, 37, of Charles-town; Shundel ‘Sugar’ Castello, a taxi driver and an ex-policeman of East Ruimveldt; and Damee Allicock, 26, of Lot 26 River View, Ruimveldt, Georgetown were charged with the robbery committed on the Sookram family of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen last week.

They were also charged with robbing four persons at Church’s Chicken on October 14.

The men were unrepresented and Police Pros-ecutor Corporal Jairam Lukhai successfully asked for bail to be denied. They are expected to return to court on November 6.

Two women who are in police custody are expected to be charged today with the same offence.

According to reports, the accused robbed Andy Sookram, 54; Esardai Sookram, 47; and Andrew Sookram at their West Bank Demerara home on October 22. It was alleged that they had tied up the Samaroo family and escaped with two generators, a weeding machine, eight gold finger rings, two gas cylinders and four cell phones.

At Church’s Chicken, they reportedly robbed staff of over $200,000 in cash and cell phones, spending about 10 minutes terrorizing the staff before escaping in a waiting motorcar.
