Edwards, Fraser spur Young Warriors to victory

A fine innings of 74 from Wahied Edwards helped spur Cumberland’s Young Warriors to an eight-wicket win over Canje Pathfinders in the 2015 New Building Society second-division limited overs cricket competition recently.

Edwards 74 and Mortimer Fraser who scored an unbeaten 58 put on an opening partnership of 150 runs in their pursuit of the 168 made by Canje Pathfinders.

Defending champions D’Edward also benefitted from two half centuries from Devendra Lalsa 77 (four fours and five sixes) and Lakeraj Sookra 69 n.o (three fours and six sixes) which saw them to 221 for 6 in 30 overs against Bath Spartans whose leg spinner Vishal Bejai took 5 for 21 from six overs. The Spartans responded with 163 all out in 29.1 overs with medium-pacer Navendra Rampersaud picking up 4 for 22.

Jason Thomas, batting at number eight for Jai Hind, made 86 not out with four fours and six sixes to steer his team to 269 for 8 in 35 overs against Kendall’s Union B, who, in their reply, could only muster 90 in 19.3 overs. Opening bowler Thomas took 5 for 26 from seven overs. Other notable all round performances were turned in by former Berbice U15 player Parasram Tilkuram of Whim National, Lakeram Latchman of No. 73 Young Warriors and Avinash Loaknauth of Tamarind Root.
