BCB/Busta opening round… Albion, Blairmont, YWCC, Port Mourant register wins

As the Berbice Cricket Board Busta 40-over First Division Champion of Champions bowled off on Monday, Albion Cricket Club, Blairmont Blazers, Young Warriors Cricket Club and Port Mourant registered victories while Tucber Park advanced due to Upper Corentyne pulling out.

At Bushlot, hosts West Berbice suffered a 131-run loss at the hands of Albion. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat. They piled on 276-8 in their allotted overs before bowling out West Berbice for 145 in 35.3 overs.

Leading the charge for Albion was Jetendra Outar with a composed 64, decorated with seven boundaries. He was supported by Sarwan Chaitnarine who finished unbeaten on 40 inclusive of three boundaries. Kandasammy Surujnarine chipped in with 35, laced with five fours and added 80 for the opening partnership with Outar. Outar also added 54 for the second wicket with Adrian Sukwah (36).

Keyron Fraser bagged 3-60 while Christopher Bisson picked up 2-20 for West Berbice whose bowling unit gave away 53 extras.

West Berbice were stopped in their tracks by Gourav Ramesh who snatched 4-25 and complimented by Beesham Surujnarine with 2-33 and Mahendra Chaitnarine with 2-21. Shemal Angel resisted with 63, consisting of nine fours and two sixes. Angel added 63 for the third wicket with Joshua Vantull (20) but only Nickel Fraser (17) and Rendell Bobb (12 not out) reached double figures.

Over at Blairmont, the hosts hammered Police by 190 runs after being invited to bat first.

Blairmont’s batsmen had a field day with Javed Karim hitting seven fours and two sixes in his 101-run innings while Seon Glasgow was unbeaten on 104 after smashing 11 sixes and four fours. The centurions were aided by Marvan Prashad with 65, featuring five fours and three sixes.

Paul Tyndall (35) and D. Phillips (25) were the principal scorers for Police as Waqar Hassan ripped through the order to end with 5-32. Nigel Deodat and Shabeer Baksh chipped in with two wickets each for 18 and 21 runs respectively.

At Rose Hall Canje, Young Warriors stunned the hosts with a two-wicket victory. Opting to bat first, Rose Hall Canje were contained to 186-5 in their quota with Sasenarine Sukhu top scoring with 73 not. His innings was highlighted with six fours and four sixes while Lee David contributed 48 with four fours and one six. Linden Austin picked up 2-31.

Sukhu returned with ball in hand to take 3-34 but it was not enough as Young Warriors reached 189-8 in 38.4 overs compliments of Seon Hetmyer who made 41 consisting of two fours and two six as well as Ricardo Ramdehol’s 25.
