G/town vs Linden affair in Foxy Ladies final

It will be Georgetown versus Linden affair in the final of the Foxy Ladies organized third annual football championship today after Eagles United and Demerara Queens secured respective semi-final wins on Friday at the Tucville Community ground.

Georgetown unit Eagles United downed tourney hosts Foxy Ladies of West Demerara by a 1-0 score line in the opening semi-final while the Lindeners edged Georgetown outfit Lady Divas 4-3 on penalty kicks after normal time ended scoreless in the second semi-final.

With the wins, they will now faceoff today in the finale at the same venue from 20:00hrs while the third place matchup between the losing semi-finalists will occur at 18:00hrs.

With a winner unable to be found in regulation time between Demerara Queens and Lady Divas, a penalty shoot-out was required to settle the outcome. The shoot-out began in the worse possible manner for the Georgetown unit as they missed from the mark in their first attempt.

However, Demerara Queens failed to capitalize on their opponent’s failure as they also missed from the distance. The second round of kicks once more failed to separate the two units as they both scored from the mark.

That trend then continued in the third round of the shoot-out as they both converted from the distance respectively to take the score to 2-2. Misery then befell the Georgetown unit as they failed to score from their fourth penalty kick. This time, the Lindeners would take advantage of their opponents letdown, netting from their fourth attempt to take a 3-2 lead going into the final round. Needing a conversion to keep their final’s hopes alive, Lady Divas netted from the mark in their fifth round to level the score at 3-3.

Nonetheless the Linden unit sealed the matchup, netting in their final attempt from the mark. In the opening semi-final, Terryka Joseph settled the matchup between Eagles United and Foxy Ladies as she found the back of the net in the third minute.

The event which featured eight teams from various parts of the country, was played in an initial group stage format. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group progressed to the knockout round.

Group A comprised of Little Diva Flames FC, Foxy Ladies, New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors FC (East Berbice) and the Guyana Defence Force (Georgetown).

On the other hand, group-B consisted of Eagles United FC, West Side Conquerors (West Berbice), Demerara Queens and Kuru-Kuru FC (East Bank of Demerara).
