Foxy Ladies, Eagles to clash in Friday’s semi-final

With a berth in the grand finale billed for Sunday at stake, the semi-final round of the Foxy Ladies organized third annual football championships will commence on Friday at the Tucville Community ground.

In the opening semi-final affair at 18:00hrs, tourney hosts and West Demerara unit Foxy Ladies will lock horns with Georgetown outfit Eagles.

The second semi-final matchup will be a Linden versus Georgetown affair when Region 10 unit Demerara Queens faces off with Little Divas Flames from 19:30hrs.

The event which featured eight teams from various parts of the country, was played in an initial group stage format. Following the conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group progressed to the knockout round.

Group A comprised Little Diva Flames FC (Georgetown), Foxy Ladies (West Demerara), New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors FC (East Berbice) and the Guyana Defence Force (Georgetown) while group-B consisted of Eagles United FC (Georgetown), West Side Conquerors (West Berbice), Demerara Queens (Linden) and Kuru-Kuru FC (East Bank of Demerara).

In the final round of group fixtures held at the same venue, Foxy Ladies defeated West Side Conquerors by a 2-1 margin in a group-A encounter. Tiandi Smith and Shemika Marcus scored for the winners while Rebecca Nurse netted for the losers.

Similarly, the final group-B matchup witnessed Eagles downing Demerara Queens by a 2-0 margin. Reshawnna Costello and Lakeisha Pearson scored in the win.
