Complaints about an attorney should be sent to Legal Practitioners’ Committee

Dear Editor,

Thank you for providing me with a copy of the letter captioned ‘Can’t get transport after seven years’ published in the Stabroek News edition of Wednesday, December 30, under the name Chatterpaul Bhagwandin.

Such issues are addressed under Rule 35 of the Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorneys-at-law. It provides for a client who alleges being aggrieved by an act of professional misconduct by an attorney-at-law, to apply to the Legal Practitioners’ Committee to require the attorney to answer the allegation. The person must do so by way of an affidavit.

The complaint should be addressed to:

Secretary
Legal Practitioners’ Committee
Court of Appeal
Kingston, Georgetown

It is generally advisable that the complaint be sent by registered mail or hand delivered.

Yours faithfully,
Christopher Ram
President
Guyana Bar Association
