Nationalities of failed drugs test cyclists not disclosed

The nationalities of the cyclists who tested positive for drug use following the five-stage road race in Guyana last October have not been disclosed.

This is according to Tessa Chaderton-Shaw, Executive Director of the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organization Inc. (Caribbean RADO).

“I never stated the nationalities of the cyclists who tested positive and I will not do so now,” said Chaderton-Shaw via telephone yesterday.

The Barbadian added, “That will be disclosed when the lawyers have completed their deliberations.”

Chaderton-Shaw did say that the cyclists have been notified and have been suspended from competing pending the legal process.

Quizzed on how soon the process will be completed, the RADO Executive Director replied “I cannot give you a time frame at the moment.”

Guyanese Raynauth Jeffrey, Hamza Eastman, Raul Leal, Alanzo Greaves and Geron Williams along with Bajans, Jamol Eastman and Darren Matthews and Marloe Rodman (Jamaica) and Colombians Carlos Ospina, Jaime Ramirez were the cyclist tested following the event.

According to Dr. Karen Pilgrim, who is a Doping Control Officer (DPO), if any of the cyclists are indeed Guyanese, their “Results Management” will be handled by the Caribbean RADO.  No details will be available until that process is complete. (Emmerson Campbell)
