PPP seeks Top Cop’s help to recover signs seized by city council

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has written to the Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud to aid in the recovery of signs that were seized from in front of its Freedom House headquarters on Thursday.

In a statement issued yesterday, the PPP said the signage was “stolen” by individuals who appeared to be employees of the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) of Georgetown.

According to the party, the three signs were removed without the permission or consent of the PPP.

“The security on duty spotted at least three (3) persons who swiftly grabbed up the signage and ran into a vehicle purportedly belonging to the M&CC,” it said.

“The party considers this a grave offence and have since written the Commissioner

of Police to assist in the recovery of its property,” it added.

Stabroek News was told by a City Hall official on Thursday that businesses and other entities must have a written approval by the council to place signs on the roadway. However, some business owners have expressed their disappointment at the seizure of their signs as most of them claimed that they were unaware of the need for approval by the city council.
