Girl, 4, dies after motorbike crash

Two days after being involved in a motorcycle accident that left her battling for her life, four-year old Paula Waterman succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Waterman, of Lot 53 Norton Street Lodge, Georgetown, was reportedly traveling on the motorcycle with her father, Paul Waterman, when the bike suffered a tyre blowout, resulting in the man losing control and crashing into a utility pole.

Waterman had picked up his daughter from school and was riding along Mandela Avenue when the accident occurred. It is unclear whether the girl was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

When Stabroek News had visited the hospital on Tuesday, the child’s mother, Samantha Perry, was too distraught to speak. However, a family friend explained that child was not responding well to treatment and had to undergo a CT scan as she received head injuries along with severe internal bleeding and a broken arm.

The child was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the GPH, where she remained up to the time of her death on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the child’s father, who suffered a broken leg as result of the accident, remains a patient at the hospital.
