Girl, 4, critical after motorbike crash

A four-year-old girl is currently battling for her life at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after the motorcycle she was travelling on crashed into a utility pole along Mandela Avenue yesterday afternoon.

Paula Waterman, of Lot 53 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was reportedly traveling on the motorcycle with her father, Paul Waterman, when the bike suffered a blowout, resulting in the man losing control and crashing into a utility pole.

Waterman had picked up his daughter from school and was riding along Mandela Avenue when the accident occurred.

When Stabroek News visited the hospital, the child’s mother, Samantha Perry, was too distraught to speak. However, a family friend explained that child was not responding well to treatment and had to undergo a CT scan as she suffered head injuries along with severe internal bleeding and a broken arm in the accident.

Meanwhile, the child’s father who was said to have suffered a broken leg in the accident, was also admitted at the GPH.
