Teams battle to draw in Bunbury Charity match

Team Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson and Team Abassi McPherson battled to a scoreless draw in their Alex Bunbury Charity encounter at the Tucville Community ground on Sunday.

Following a first half devoid of many chances in the 60-minute affair, the fixture sprung to life in the second half with Delon Lanferman almost giving Team McPherson the lead in the 36th minute.

Racing onto a through pass within the right side of the penalty box, Lanferman with only the goalkeeper in his path, directed his powerful right footed effort straight at the legs of the opposing custodian.

The resulting corner almost provided the go-ahead goal but the header from centrehalf Selwyn Isaacs within the centre of the penalty area, was parried over the crossbar by the shot-stopper.

Devon Millington should have given Team Richardson the lead in the 47th minute, pouncing on a loose ball at the top of the box unchallenged only to fire his right footed effort wide of the lower left corner.

Meanwhile, Team McPherson thought they had taken the lead in the 54th minute as Lanferman blasted past the advancing custodian with a right footed effort, after collecting a lobbed pass from Daniel Wilson, only for the official to signal offside.

In the earlier veteran encounter, Team Vibert “Durdy” Butts defeated Team Gordon Brathwaite by a 1-0 score line. Part of the proceeds for the event will be given to charity.
