$150,000 bail for accused ID card forger

City vendor Steve Simon was yesterday placed on $150,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to charges that he forged an ID card and made a false statement to immigration authorities to get a passport.

It is alleged that Simon, of 1719 Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, on January 25, at the Central Immigration and Passport Office at Camp Street, forged an identification card in the name of Byron Lyndon Augustus Baggott.

It is also alleged that on the same day Simon uttered a forged ID card in the name of Byron Lyndon Augustus Baggott, stating that it was issued by the Guyana Elections Commission, knowing same to be false. It is also alleged that on the same day he made a false statement that he was Byron Lyndon Augustus Baggott and that he had never previously applied for a passport.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones made no objection to bail and Simon was subsequently placed on $150,000 bail. His next hearing is February 19.
