Freelance reporter, girlfriend press charges after fight

A freelance reporter and his girlfriend appeared before a city court yesterday where he was charged with assaulting her while she was charged with stealing from him.

Mark Bradford, 46, who gave his occupation as a freelance reporter, was accused of assaulting Odetta Fogenay on January 19, at Main Street.

The charge against Fogenay, 44, alleged that she, on January 23, at Main and New Market streets, stole a pair of spectacles, valued $48,000, from Bradford’s person.

It is the police’s case that on January 19, Bradford and Fogenay had an argument and he dealt her two slaps to the face. It was related, however, that the woman did not report the assault until January 23, the day she is alleged to have stolen Bradford’s glasses.

According to the prosecutor’s report, on January 23, Fogenay, incensed by Facebook messages that were sent to Bradford by another woman, drove her vehicle along Main Street where Bradford had been walking at the time.

The woman reportedly exited the vehicle and held on to the man’s shirt, demanding that he enter the jeep. When he failed to obey her request, she snatched his glasses and drove off. She was later arrested after the matter was reported.

The two were both placed on $20,000 bail each by Magistrate Delon Bess and the matter has been adjourned to February 15.
