Fudadin slams majestic ton

Assad Fudadin warmed up with a majestic 145 yesterday ahead of the restart of the Professional Cricket League (PCL) 4-Day Tournament as Vishaul Singh’s XI ended day one of the three day practice match on 270-6 against Robin Bacchus XI.

At stumps, Anthony Bramble (12) and Veerasammy Permaul (02) were the overnight batsmen. Part-time off-spinner Johnathan Foo was the pick of the bowlers with 3-31 while senior pacer Paul Wintz took 2-33.

Played at the famous Bourda Cricket Ground, Fudadin, the 30 year-old out-of-favor West Indies Test opener continued his fine batting form this Regional season with a lively century from 218 balls with 14 fours and three sixes which was instrumental in his team’s first innings total.

West Indies latest Test opener Rajendra Chandrika was elegant during his knock of 86 which was decorated by eight fours and one six as he shared a mammoth second wicket partnership of 192 with Fudadin.

Batting first, Singh’s XI lost opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (10) who edged a delivery from Wintz and was caught by wicketkeeper Kemol Savory. The first wicket fell at 27.

After the early loss, the two Test players did no wrong as they showed their class with a wide array of strokes which was complemented by sensible running between the wickets, taking the score to 65 for 1 at lunch.

Chandrika brought up a patient half-century off 97 balls with six boundaries and one six while the more aggressive Fudadin required only 79 deliveries as they piled on the runs.

Fudadin remained fluent after reaching his half century and upped his scoring rate struck part-time spinner Gajanand Singh for back-to-back sixes before launching West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for a huge six on the Lance Gibbs roof, which brought up his century off 126 balls.

However, the near 200-run partnership was broken when Wintz denied the right-handed Chandrika the opportunity of another three figure score at the famous Bourda ground, when he sliced a catch to Sherfane Rutherford at backward point.

At 219 for 2, Singh (17) came out to partner Fudadin who was motoring on nicely before Rutherford took a remarkable diving catch square of the wicket off Foo to removed the skipper.

All-rounder Raymon Reifer (01) played a lethargic shot and was expertly caught and bowled by Foo, leaving the score 263 for 4.

Left-arm spinner Steven Sankar(1-10), removed Kevon Boodie who was caught at first slip off Foo for a duck and Fudadin was finally caught by Foo who picked up his third wicket of the game, by a diving Wintz in the covers.
