BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC-Windward Islands Volcanoes are hoping that their performance in the recently concluded NAGICO Super 50 can help trigger a change of fortunes for them in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League (PCL) which resumes this week.
Volcanoes advanced to the semi-finals of the Super50 after topping Group B following poor performance in five rounds of matches in the competition.
They currently occupy fifth position, above bottom of the table Leewards Hurricanes with 29 points from five matches with one victory.
“Well this will help a great deal because you can see there were some good individual performances from the players and even if they felt they could have done better they felt satisfied with the performances. Much better from the four-day game,” said coach, Ian Allen, about his team’s Super50 run.
“So I think it will definitely boost the players’ confidence going into the tournament. I think this outing in the super 50 will definitely give us some confidence.”
Volcanoes and Barbados play each other in the second leg at Kensington Oval in Barbados from Friday.
Windwards, who lost to Pride by 181 runs in the first leg, are up against an outfit reinforced by the return of several West Indies cricketers from duty in Australia.
“History shows that we would have had a good run in against Barbados at that venue. What works for us in those games is that we definitely back ourselves and play Barbados hard because we know that once we do that we will obviously reap the benefit,” Allen said.
“This is what happens when you are coming up against good players. Most of the test players are back in the Barbados side so we will have to lift our game from ball one.”
