Trees planted along North Rd died

Dear Editor,

The Sunday Stabroek editorial of February 14 2016 captioned `Zoos and petting zoos’  was pointed as it was appropriate.  It seems some city father(s) or mother(s) is/are in a rush to leave a legacy.

Paragraph six of the editorial dealing with Merriman Mall is of particular interest.

Do the hapless occupiers of the horseshoe table have any inkling just what would be required to manage a zoo, much less one at Merriman Mall?  This entire idea is preposterous and lacks serious thought.

Which bring me to the purpose of this missive.  After beautifying the area (much credit and kudos must go to Royston King and team at City Hall) some trees (looked liked palm trees.  Was this synonymous with the green and yellow syndrome creeping into the city’s aesthetics?) were planted along North Road from GCC.  A few days later all the trees began to wilt, dry up and died due to lack of care and attention. The trees needed watering. How could you plant trees and not look back at them?

These dead, unsightly trees ought to be removed (if they already have then I apologise) as they really make the area look ugly.

The point is this one, a little thing they couldn’t get right …how in heavens name do they intend to get a zoo on Merriman Mall right?

I quite agree with the Editorial..a zoo on either Merriman Mall and/or Promenade Gardens  we do not need..there are much more important areas that scarce funds can be diverted to for the benefit of the citizenry.

Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
