Lodge, North Georgetown punch ticket to knockout round

Lodge Secondary and North Georgetown punched their tickets to the knockout round of the fourth annual Milo Schools’ U20 football tournament defeating Brickdam and St. Joseph’s High respectively yesterday.

Staged at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, former champs Lodge Secondary dismantled Brickdam Secondary 6-0 in their final group fixture.

Shemar Smith netted a double in the seventh and 42nd minutes; Leon Blake recorded a double in the 12th and 57th minutes and Simeon Hackett netted a brace in the 22nd and 45th minutes.

Meanwhile, in the Woolford Avenue derby, North Georgetown downed arch-rivals St. Joseph’s High 2-1 compliments of a Nehemiah Gomes double in the 24th and 49th minutes. On target in the defeat was Philippe Meredith in the 62nd minute.

In the other results, North Ruimveldt and Queen’s College battled to a 2-2 stalemate.

Tyrese Rowley recorded a double for North Ruimveldt in the 11th and 28th minutes while Kevin Wills and Michael Hunter scored in the 16th and 37th minutes respectively for Queen’s College.

In the final result, Houston Secondary secured a walkover against Morgan Learning Centre. Upon the conclusion of the final round, the event will progress to the round of 16 stage.

Winner of the event will walk away with the championship trophy and $500,000 towards a school project.

On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 correspondingly towards the funding of a school initiative and the respective trophy.
