Women’s Association for Sustainable Development launches Linden chapter

The Women’s Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) officially launched its Linden Chapter on February 19, at the residence of Francine Major in Amelia’s Ward.

According to a press release, the Linden chapter is headed by Setra O’Selmo, President; Crystal Lam, Secretary; Maureen Muss, Treasurer and Major – Committee Member.

The release said Muss related that as part of its 2015 community outreach efforts, the group gave ‘love baskets’ (Christmas hampers) to six deserving families of the Linden/Wismar community. The group also ‘adopted’ a student and takes care of the child’s needs. Additional fund raisers are being planned for 2016 with all proceeds going to the identified families of the Linden community, the release stated.

Guest speaker at the event, Pastor Gloria McKinnon, urged the association to always be guided by three Cs in its quest for empowerment – Charity, Caring and Commitment. She said that these were the vital ingredients needed for the association to successfully fulfil its goals and objectives.

Also present at the launch were WASD Executive President Sonia Noel and three members of the Executive Committee, Lucria Rambalak, Akilah Flo Bourne and Margo Boyce, the release said.

The evening featured poetry, dance and fashion displays from young talented designers including the Linden Barber and Beauty Supply Association which treated guests to a display of an exquisite line of clothing made from hair.
