Lindener denies theft of truck axles

An Amelia’s Ward, Linden resident, charged with robbery, was on Friday released on bail after his lawyer told a city court that there was no way he could have single-handedly stolen four Bedford truck axles as claimed by police.

The court heard that between February 15 and February 16, at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Albert Nurse, 27, stole the truck axles, which were valued at $300,000. They were the property of Kirk Cumberbatch.

Nurse pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

According to Nurse’s lawyer, it was unfortunate that his client alone is being charged for the offence, particularly since one man could not steal a truck axle because of the size and weight of the part.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones had no objections to bail, which was set at $50,000 and the case was transferred

to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for March 8. ’
