Cops probing reported drowning of Amelia’s Ward man

The police are investigating the reported drowning of a 31-year-old Linden resident, whose body was discovered in an old mining pit at Banana Landing Backdam, Middle Mazaruni River last Thursday.

The dead man has been identified as Albert Nurse, a resident of Amelia’s Ward, Linden.

The police said enquiries revealed that around 8.30 am on Thursday, one of Nurse’s colleagues returned to his camp and saw him lying in a hammock.

As a result, the man asked Nurse what he was doing there.

“The deceased (Nurse) then jumped out of the hammock and ran away and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol,” the police said.

Hours after, Nurse’s body was found in an old mining pit situated a few yards away from the camp.

The police were summoned.

Nurse body was examined and there were no visible marks of violence.

A post-mortem is scheduled to be conducted in the new week.
