The body of a man which was found at the Whim foreshore almost one month ago was yesterday identified by family members who are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination to discover what resulted in his death.
He has been identified as 51-year-old Diaram Naris called ‘Long hair’ and ‘Korean,’ a fisherman of Lot 241 Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice.
Naris’s body was discovered at the Whim foreshore on February 5.
Stabroek News understands that the man was last seen alive on February 4, moments after a fellow fisherman reportedly visited his home and had a discussion with him. Naris subsequently informed his brother that he was leaving for work at sea.
Contacted yesterday, the dead man’s brother, said not having contact with Naris and not seeing him for a period of time was customary because of the job he did. However, he added that as time went by relatives became worried and decided to contact various family members and friends about Naris but came up empty handed. They also attempted to contact the persons he left with for sea, but since they are not quite sure of who they were that too proved futile. It was over the weekend, the brother said, that he and Naris’s only daughter decided to visit the mortuary to ensure the body was not his; their worst fears were confirmed.
The body remains at the Port Mourant Hospital Mortuary and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
