A post-mortem examination performed on Wednesday on the remains of Diaram Naris, whose body was found at the Whim foreshore nearly a month ago, found that he died from drowning.
This is according to a police source, who said that no foul play was suspected in Naris’ death.
The body of Naris, called ‘Long Hair’ and ‘Korean,’ a fisherman of Lot 241 Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice, was discovered at the Whim foreshore on February 5. However, he was only identified on Monday, when his relatives’ worst fears were confirmed.
Stabroek News had reported that the dead man was last seen alive on February 4, moments after a fellow fisherman reportedly visited his home and had a discussion with him. Naris subsequently informed his brother that he was leaving for work at sea.
His brother had told Stabroek News that not seeing Naris for a period of time was customary because of the job he did. However, he added that as time went by relatives became worried and decided to contact various family members, friends and workmates about Naris but they came up empty handed.
