Suspect in Matthews Ridge cop killing to be charged with murder

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that a murder charge be levelled against Dennis Marks who allegedly stabbed and killed Police Sergeant Leonard LaRose last week Tuesday.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said the charge will be instituted as soon as Marks is discharged from the hospital.

He is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after he sustained a single gunshot wound to the left leg during the incident.

Sergeant 16934 LaRose was stabbed to death on March 2, while he and two other ranks were in the process of arresting Marks who was wanted in connection with a rape allegation.

The incident had occurred around 17:30 hrs at Hole, Matthews Ridge, Region One.

La Rose succumbed to his injuries while police constables Lewis and Schultz were treated and sent away. Marks of Wauna Creek north was shot to his upper left leg by a constable who was armed.

Reports gathered by this newspaper had revealed that the ranks were all on duty when they received information about Marks being at Hole, Matthews Ridge. As a result, they proceeded to the location and it was whilst in the process of arresting the suspect he whipped out a knife from his side and attacked and stabbed them.
