Recaptured Health Ministry arson accused remanded

Keith Ferrier, one of the accused in the 2009 arson of the Ministry of Health building at Brickdam, was on Thursday remanded to prison.

Ferrier, who was charged on July 30th, 2009 with unlawfully and maliciously setting fire to the Ministry of Health building, had fled the jurisdiction after being granted his release on $350,000 bail.

Ferrier was recaptured on Monday at North Road, Bourda at a business establishment.

The two other persons charged with the arson were Clayton Westford and Tedena Bagot.

During the wee hours of July 17, 2009 a huge fire, reportedly sparked by channa bombs, destroyed the Ministry of Health’s main building and an annex at Brickdam, devouring decades-old records, vehicles and a string of key divisions in a major blow to the health sector.
