Keith Ferrier, one of the accused in the 2009 arson of the Ministry of Health building at Brickdam, was denied bail after making a new application yesterday.
Ferrier, who was charged on July 30, 2009 with unlawfully and maliciously setting fire to the Ministry of Health building, had fled the jurisdiction after being granted his release on $350,000 bail. He was later recaptured at North Road, Bourda this year, at a business establishment.
Ferrier appeared in Georgetown before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan with his lawyer to make a bail application but she denied it. The magistrate asked the prosecution to seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the matter and told Ferrier that bail will not be granted until there is a response.
The matter was adjourned until tomorrow for a report from the DPP.
Two other persons were also charged with the arson—Clayton Westford and Tedena Bagot.
During the wee hours of July 17, 2009 a huge fire, reportedly sparked by channa bombs, destroyed the Ministry of Health’s main building and an annex at Brickdam.
