Corentyne man hospitalised after being chopped in home invasion

A Corentyne man is now hospitalised with chop wounds after being attacked by three men who invaded his home early Monday morning.

Yuvraj Ramphal, 20, of Belvedere Squatting Area, Corentyne, is currently a patient at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was taken after the pre-dawn attack.

He sustained chop wounds to his head, shoulder and left arm.

According to a police source, one person has been arrested and the investigation into the home invasion is still ongoing.

The victim’s wife, Shabana, told Stabroek News that the attack occurred at around 3am on Monday, just after she and her husband were awakened by a noise.

Shabana, who is five months pregnant, said Yuvraj was going out to check on the noise when three men, armed with cutlasses, entered their home and started to fire chops at her husband.

According to Shabana, during the attack her husband was asking the men who they were looking for and why they were chopping him but they did not respond.

In order to escape, she said, Yuvraj ran out of the back door and jumped the fence.

She and her three children, she added, ran to her mother-in-law’s residence, a street away.

According to the woman, before she could return with help, the three perpetrators were gone and her husband was taken to the hospital by a few of his friends that live nearby.
