Police to seek legal advice on Coverden accident

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Police Force is responding to an article published in the Stabroek News of Monday April 25, 2016, under the caption `No charge yet in Coverden double road fatality’.

In the article it is stated that acting Traffic Chief Boodnarine Persaud had told Stabroek News that investigations are ongoing and charges would be laid soon.

The Guyana Police Force is clarifying that the acting Traffic Officer Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud did not say that charges would be laid soon and has been misquoted.

What he said was that the investigations are ongoing and the police are looking at different theories. However, the drivers involved in the accident are presently hospitalised and the police would need to hear their side of the story during the investigations.

The investigations into the fatal accident are still continuing, at the conclusion of which legal advice will be sought.

  Yours faithfully,

Ivelaw Whittaker

Public Relations and Press Officer
