Fish vendor jailed for 2 years for escaping from custody

Randolph Thompson, a fish vendor who was serving a sentence for intent to commit a felony, was yesterday found guilty of escaping from lawful custody and sentenced to two years in prison.

Magistrate Judy Latchman found that Thompson, 34, while being a prisoner of the Camp Street prison, escaped from lawful custody on February 15, 2016, at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU).

It was said that he was transported to TSU to do some brush cutting work when he asked an officer to use the washroom facilities.

After a time lapse of approximately 15 minutes, however, during which Thompson did not return, the officer realized he was missing and carried out a search.

In June 2015, Thompson was charged with attempting to steal a truck battery valued at $70,000 from BK Inc.

He was captured after an on-duty security guard saw him scaling the fence of the business place and raised an alarm.
