A father of three was yesterday charged with fraudulently converting $1.5 million in raw gold.
Joseph Atkinson, of Charlestown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on six counts of fraudulent conversion.
It is alleged that Atkinson, between March and July, fraudulently converted $1.5 million in raw gold at Sourie Backdam, Cuyuni River. The gold was the property of Alfro Alphonso and Sons Enterprises.
Atkinson, who denied the charges, was granted bail in the sum of $500,000.
The matter was adjourned and transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for August 10.
