Start of Bagotstown murder inquiry rescheduled

The start of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Trevor Amsterdam, who is accused of killing fugitive Jermaine Simon, has been rescheduled. Amsterdam, who was charged on February 16, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore in a Georgetown court yesterday for the expected start of the PI.

Amsterdam, who appeared on crutches, was represented by attorney Melville Duke.

The prosecutor had one witness who was present and prepared to give evidence but there was not enough time to accommodate the proceedings yesterday.

As a result, August 19 has been set as the new date for the commencement of the PI.

It was previously stated by the police that Simon, an Agricola resident, was allegedly shot in the head by the accused on November 10, 2015, at Bagotstown.

Simon’s relatives had said that he had left his Agricola home to check on his grandmother in Bagotstown when the shooting occurred.

Simon was wanted by the police for questioning in connection with the murder of Ryan Sooklall at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
