The court heard that Amsterdam, 32, of 34 Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, on November 10, 2015, at Bagotstown, allegedly murdered Simon.

Amsterdam, who appeared before the court on crutches, was not required to plead to the charge, which was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who set the next hearing for March 14 at Court Five.

According to the police, Simon, an Agricola resident, was allegedly shot in the head by the accused.

Simon’s relatives had said that he had left his Agricola home to check on his grandmother in Bagotstown when the shooting occurred.

Simon’s mother, Nicola Simon, said that her son was shot in the presence of herself and a number of other family members who were liming on Norton Street.

According to Nicola, as her son approached the fence of the suspect, he was shot and immediately fell off of his bicycle. He was left lying sprawled on the ground, bleeding profusely while his relatives were helpless as they were kept at bay by the gunman.

The woman had said that the two men had an old grievance.

Amsterdam was reported to have had two broken feet at the time and was walking with the aid of crutches, resulting in him not leaving the scene immediately. He was picked up later by a car, relatives of Simon related.
