Pathologist back at work in T&T

(Trinidad Express) Forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov resumed performing autopsies on Thursday after he was given the assurance some of his demands will be met.

Alexandrov stopped work on Tuesday, saying he was overworked.

Autopsies on the bodies of 12 people were not done on Tuesday as the lone forensic pathologist on duty said he was fed up of the labour shortage, which he says has been plaguing the Forensic Science Centre since he was hired more than seven years ago.

In an interview on I95.5FM yesterday, Alexandrov said he had been told by the Ministry of National Security that a recruitment process for another pathologist will begin soon.

Alexandrov also said that deaths which were clearly not cases of homicide, such as drowning or accidents in which the lone occupant of the vehicle died, are now going to be done at the nation’s hospitals as opposed to the Forensic Science Centre.
