Four homeless after Rasville fire

A family of four lost their abode and possessions when their house was burnt to the ground on Saturday afternoon.

According to the reports reaching Stabroek News, no one was in the Rasville, Roxanne Burnham Gardens house at the time of the fire. Neighbours said that around 5 pm they noticed dark thick smoke emanating from the building.

“Them children went playing in the yard and we were in the house and is one of them run in and tell we that the house smoking bad, bad,” one of the neighbours said. He explained that after he noticed the smoke he quickly called out to his wife and other neighbours to assist. “She [his wife] called the Fire Service and everybody tried to help but we couldn’t do anything,” he added.

The man explained that because of its size, after a few minutes the entire house was engulfed in flames and even when the fire service arrived several minutes later, their efforts were in vain as they were not able to save the house.

“Is a lil house so even if they de come a lil bit earlier I don’t think they woulda been able to save anything still,” he said.

Neighbours related that a man, his wife and their two children resided in the house. Stabroek News was unable to find the family as it was related that they have since gone to their relatives.

While the origin of the fire is still unknown, the residents pointed out that there were several power outages over the weekend and opined that it might have been electrical in nature.
