North Rd miner shoots wife, kills self

A miner last evening shot and injured his wife before killing himself with the weapon at their North Road, Lacytown, Georgetown home.

Dead is seventy-three-year-old Theodore Adams called “Totie”. His wife, Sarojini Warnauth, 42, was shot in her mouth and was up to press time a patient at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in a critical condition.

Stabroek News understands that the incident occurred around 19:30 hours at their Lot 42 North Road, Lacytown, Georgetown home.

Reports revealed that the couple was sitting in their verandah relaxing with their daughter and Warnauth’s nephew when an argument ensued.

Adams then shot his wife after which she and her daughter and nephew ran inside the house and locked themselves in a bedroom. The daughter and nephew used a ladder to exit the house through a window and rushed Warnauth to the hospital.

A few minutes after he shot his wife, Adams took his own life with the weapon.

Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken last evening said the police received a report of a loud explosion and raced to the house during which Adams was discovered dead. His licensed firearm was recovered at the scene.

Reports revealed that Adams suffered from depression and had previously threatened to kill Warnauth. The couple had a history of domestic problems.

Investigators were up to press time at the scene conducting investigations.
