Gaskin fails to qualify

Local swimming ace Hannibal Gaskin failed to qualify for the second round of the 100M Butterfly, finishing 42nd out of a possible 43 entrants yesterday in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Gaskin in his unseeded race featuring three competitors, finished in the second position with a time of 58.57 behind Mali’s Oumar Toure who stopped the clock at 57.56. Finishing in the cellar position during the race was Myanmar’s Thint Myat 1:02.54.

Overall, Gaskin’s time was five seconds behind the slowest of the eventual 17 qualifiers who was Jeremy Stravius of France. Stravius clocked 52.10 to earn a place in the next round.
