Newspapers should repeat some letters and articles

Dear Editor,

Often times, except one is a natural, one struggles to write well.  Many times we come across articles or letters on a wide range of subjects from A to Z, some mind-boggling, stunningly revealing, richly informative, inspiring, uplifting, and so delightful and life-changing that one would wish for the entire world to share them.  This is why I say again that it should be a policy of our dailies to make special selections of those invaluable gems and set them aside for repeat publication from time to time as they wish.  There are so many thrilling incredible life experiences that abound that definitely need to be told over and over again for the sake of humanity.  While some are like fairy tales, others are drawn from the rugged terrain of the daily vicissitudes of life in which the narrative flows uninterrupted like a stream.  There are no doubt many writings where an inordinate amount of time-consuming research, patience and drive had to be expended for them to be presented in the way they were to captivate, motivate and arrest one’s interest.

Don’t tell me that all that mental and physical labour was meant to be printed for one day in a newspaper that is discarded immediately after consumption – worse yet for a rapidly diminishing reading public when only a handful of those who purchase seriously read.  Letters, poems, human interest stories, historical accounts, all qualify for reprinting from time to time, not to mention those wrung from the naked power of the imagination ‒ fertile, rich, delectable that can transport us into a vision.  Then why are those special ones not ventilated as much as possible to nourish the minds of as many souls as possible; there is nothing to lose by doing so and everything to gain.

Yours faithfully,

Frank Fyffe
