Has the municipality given permission for car washes on council reserves?

Dear Editor,

Recently, a number of car washes have been springing up in residential areas. Some of them operate with a high level of noise, causing neighbours to be uncomfortable in their homes, so you have to talk on your telephone in the washroom area. Similarly with skyping, in addition to which you have to turn up your TV volume, and dirty water discolours the walls of your home.

There are a number of questions for the authorities:

Has the city council given permission for these car washes to operate on council reserves? Are they registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority? Do they pay commercial rates to Guyana Water Inc and Guyana Power & Light?

I’m hoping that something can be done.

Yours faithfully,
