Juman Yassin and Cornette should resign

Dear Editor,

I am totally disappointed with Guyana’s performance at the recently concluded Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Over the last 16 years Guyana’s performance has been dismal and there has been no tangible improvement in our performances and we seem no closer to getting a medal over the period 2000 to the present which I have been monitoring.

We all accept the principle ‘the buck stops here’, and in this case the globetrotting head of the Guyana Olympic Association must have the decency to resign forthwith and allow a new team to come into place.

Mr Juman Yassin’s constant excuse about a lack of funding even if true,  points to a lack of confidence in him and his management or a lack of persuasiveness that is necessary when one occupies such a position.

Secondly, having read about the Natasha Smith situation at NCN I have no choice but to add to the calls for Mr Cornette to resign immediately, as he seems clueless in regards to basic human resource administration. He has failed entirely to put up an iota of evidence or facts to support reasons for removing Ms Smith as a news anchor. I recall that one of the Directors initially appointed by the subject Minister (PM Nagamooto) quite correctly resigned from the board upon learning that Mr Cornette was selected by the Chairman of the Board, Mr Bish Panday, to take up the all-important CEO position. It seems that this former director was entirely correct in his judgment of Mr Cornette.

Regarding the board, including Chairman Mr Panday, we have lost confidence in them and it is high time that PM Nagamootoo (who has condemned Mr Cornette’s actions) remove the entire Board and start afresh.

Yours faithfully,

M Persaud
