Without the consent and cooperation of the board of directors, the dissolution of the WICB is a very long-term proposition. People who know a great deal about international cricket and its management have observed with trepidation what the board has done to Cozier, Holding, Coach Simmons, Dwayne Bravo, Sarwan, Lendl Simmons and Gayle. They have seen the lack of help given even recently to young prospects like Barath and Powell, and they have thrown in the towel. However, the situation is not hopeless, either in the short or the long run. Remember in this, the last game in the Pakistan series, despite all our difficulties, it was the run-outs of opener Brathwaite and Bravo that snuffed out our chances of winning. West Indies cricketers must not allow the insensitivity of those who manage the game to completely destroy them mentally. In a real sense the board has even undermined those they like. Holder and Carlos Brathwaite should be learning their trades instead of being burdened with captaincy. It is not, however, their faults that they were made captains prematurely. The coach and senior players must make sure that a great prospect like Alzarri Joseph is not used as a death bowler ‒ indeed bowling the 50th over ‒ in his first one-day game. We must understand that even in 50 over cricket, in most circumstances two real quicks must play if they are available, as Waquar has said frequently, and we must juggle the batting order occasionally. A fire has to be lit under Pollard, and Charles may have to sit out the next game. WI can win the next game so that their chances of being in the 2019 World Cup are not reduced further.
