Dottin backs Windies to bounce back against England

FALMOUTH, Jamaica, CMC – Veteran all-rounder Deandra Dottin is convinced West Indies Women will hit back strongly against England Women, after losing the opening One-Day International of the five-match series here Saturday.

The hosts slumped to a narrow five-run defeat at the Trelawny Muti-Purpose Stadium, after failing to chase down 150 in a low-scoring encounter.

“It’s not the start we were looking for but we just have to go back to the drawing boards, see where we went wrong and just pick back up from there and try to win the next few games,” the 25-year-old said afterward.

“In our batting we fell a bit short. Some of us needed to stand up and bat, as well as myself. I got out at the wrong time but coming in the next couple of games, we will bounce back.”

Dottin, a right-arm seamer, claimed three for 21 from five overs as England Women, opting to bat first, were dismissed for 149 off the first ball of the final over.

She made key strikes, accounting for the first three wickets to fall as the visitors slumped to 47 for three in the 18th over. Among her victims was captain Heather Knight, caught at the wicket for a first-ball ‘duck’.
