Two die in Moblissa crash

Two persons are now dead after the minibus they were traveling in reportedly slammed into the back of a truck along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway last evening.

Stabroek News was told that the accident occurred in the vicinity of the Moblissa Bridge on the Linden Soesdyke Highway at around 8 pm.

Up to press time last night, the death toll stood at two as a woman, identified as Bridgette Peters, of Mahdia, along with an unidentified male, were pronounced dead on arrival at the Linden Public Hospital Complex. The total number of persons injured in the accident, however, remained unclear.

While details of the accident are sketchy, Stabroek News was told that the Route 72 Minibus (Mahdia) was heading in the direction of the city when the lights from an oncoming vehicle reportedly blinded the driver, causing him to swerve, before slamming into the back of what was said to be an unlit, parked, truck containing logs.

The minibus was said to have been “written off” after the crash as the entire roof was torn off when it slammed into the back of the truck.
