Soft Drinks Plant secured their berth in the final of the Banks DIH Limited inter-department cricket tournament after defeating Brewery by four wickets in their automatic finals qualifier Monday at the Thirst Park ground.
With both teams finishing atop their respective divisions at the end of the group stage, the winner of the matchup gained a direct route to the final with the losing team to play the winner of the lone semi-final between Vehicle Workshop and defending champ Sales Department.
Required to chase 128 after Brewery battled to 127-6 from their 15 overs, Soft Drinks Plant recovered from a shaky position to reach 130-6 in 14.2 overs.
Wayward bowling characterized the contest as Brewery conceded 44 extras, of which 32 runs came from wide deliveries. T. Abel top scored with the bat for the winners with 18 (2x4s, 1×6) while A. Norville stroked 17 runs and T. Martins chipped in with 13.
- Barnwell bagged 4-27 in his four over burst. Prior to the successful chase, Soft Drinks Plant’s indisciplined bowling effort had allowed Brewery to recover from 20-4 to post a decent total.
Like Brewery’s bowling effort, Soft Drinks Plant conceded 46 extras of which 35 runs emanated from wide deliveries while K. Percival scored 33 (2x4s, 2x6s) and D. October and Eustace Hinds scored 19 and 16 runs respectively.
