TT man charged for racking up debts at city hotels

A Trinidadian national was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with incurring over $300,000 in debts at two different hotels.

It is alleged that Anthony Nester, between April 1st and April 15th, in Georgetown, incurred debt of $260,824 at Brandsville Hotel by falsely pretending that he had a valid credit card to pay, knowing same to be property of Wilfred Bradford.

Nester, 28, also allegedly committed a similar offence between August 15th and August 18th at the Opus Hotel, where he incurred a debt of $66,898.

Nester pleaded not guilty to both charges, which were read by Georgetown magistrate Judy Latchman.

Attorney James Bond, who appeared on behalf of Nester, requested that his client be granted bail.

He stated that his client, who is the registered owner of the Guyana School of Etiquette, which is to be launched this month, denied the allegation given that he stayed at the Brandsville Hotel on four occasions prior and never had an issue with payment.

Police Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant is not a Guyanese national and if granted bail he may flee the jurisdiction.

Nester was subsequently denied bail by the magistrate and the matter was adjourned to November 18th.
