West Dem accident victim identified as Vigilance man

The victim of Sunday evening’s fatal accident which occurred on the Parfait Harmonie Access Road, West Bank Demerara has since been identified as Macessia Henry of Vigilance North, East Coast Demerara.

Henry, a 41-year-old father of six was said to have been the front seat passenger in a silver-grey Toyota Premio car, with registration PSS 7212 which was being driven by his neighbour Clarence Beaton when the accident occurred just after 11 pm on Sunday.

Stabroek News understands that Beaton, who was heading east along the road, attempted to negotiate a turn on the road and lost control of the car.

This caused him to collide with an oncoming white Toyota Allion PRR 8398 which was being driven by Jermaine Gray of Patentia, West Bank Demerara. Both cars suffered extensive damage as Gray’s car ended up in a nearby trench while the other flipped and landed on its roof.

Henry was reportedly pronounced dead at the accident scene while the other men were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Beaton has since transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital while Gray has been transferred to the Woodlands Hospital.

When Stabroek News visited the home of the deceased yesterday morning, Henry’s mother had already travelled to the city to identify her son’s body.

However, relatives who were present, expressed shock at the passing of their loved one and pondered what could have gone wrong.

When contacted, Claudette Henry, mother of the dead man, told Stabroek News that she last saw her son alive on Sunday afternoon just before he left the house at 118 Vigilance North, to visit Beaton a few houses away.

While she could not say for sure, Henry believes that during the course of the visit, Beaton invited her son to accompany him to a birthday party in Parfait Harmonie.

She was informed of the tragedy by relatives who visited her workplace just after 2 am on Monday to deliver the tragic news.

Henry said that based on what she observed when she saw her son’s body, it would seem he sustained significant head injuries as a result of the accident.

Macessia, a mason by profession, leaves to mourn his mother, six children, relatives and friends.
