Some broadcasters should be given short courses in modern languages

Dear Editor,

I occasionally hear the mispronunciation of foreign words, names and places broadcast by our radio and television media. I therefore suggest, if possible, that several short courses be organized in modern languages ‒ Spanish Portuguese and French ‒ for some of the broadcasters who have an interest in such a learning exercise.

Having acquired some knowledge and understanding in this area our young broadcasters will benefit considerably as regards how to pronounce strange words such as, coup d’état, debut, déjà vu, Mon Repos and many others. Moreover, there will be an element of improvement in the quality of their English broadcasting, and fluency of language will certainly ensue.

This being corrected, ultimately, our airwaves would be further enhanced.

Yours faithfully,

Autry A Fernandes
