Christmas cheer for New Opportunity Corps youths

“Each child should be treated with love, respect and dignity,” declared Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry at the annual luncheon held each year at the New Opportunity Corps (NOC), a release from her ministry said yesterday.

At this year’s event, the Minister was joined by Permanent Secretary – Alfred King; Director of Youth – Melissa Carmichael; Assistant Director of Youth – Leslyn Boyce and other senior staff in the Ministry.

Henry said that the staff at the NOC should count it a privilege to be able to take care of the children.

She added that regardless of the circumstance the students must be treated with love, respect, compassion and dignity.

The Minister emphasized that the staff should collectively work towards ensuring that the students are afforded as many ‘Opportunities’ as possible – especially educational opportunities.

King recalled the success stories for a few young men who were students at the NOC and have gone on to do well for themselves. The PS said that the administrators, policy makers and stakeholders should collectively work towards providing opportunities that will allow the students to lead productive lives.
