Beach football association selects squad for CONCACAF C/ships

The Guyana Beach Football Association has selected its final squad to participate in the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships to be held in Nassau, Bahamas next February.

The 12-member team which comprises 10 Lindeners and two Kuru-Kururu players was selected following trials and the staging of the inaugural Corona Beer Beach football tournament.

The roster reads Jermain Grandison (captain), Tony Gilbert, Rodwin Fraser, Trevon Archibald, Deshawn Joseph, Michael Wilson, Jahshaun Moore, Keon Sears, Cordell Johnson, Jamol Haynes, Ethan Fparman (Goalkeeper) and Kellon Major (Goalkeeper).

The most notable and unexpected exclusion from the final roster is experienced beach and futsal goalkeeper Travis Best who was a part of the  training squad.

The shot-stopper’s most recent international sojourn was as a member of the Guyana Futsal team that competed at the Caribbean Futsal Tournament in Cuba in 2016.

Abdulla Hamid is the Head-Coach, with Dillon Roberts his assistant. The manager of the team is German Grieg.

Guyana was placed in Group-A alongside the hosts, Jamaica and Belize following the official draw on October 16th in Miami, Florida. In Group-B, defending CONCACAF Beach Soccer champion Mexico was joined by Guatemala, Canada and Guadeloupe.

The United States of America, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda and US Virgin Islands make up Group C. El Salvador will be in Group D with Costa Rica, Panama and Turks & Caicos Islands.

The Malcom Beach Soccer Facility will host all group, quarter-final, semifinals, third place and final matches. The champion and the runners-up of the competition will join hosts Bahamas as the three CONCACAF representatives in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017.

In case Bahamas (host of the World Cup) and/or Guadeloupe (Non-FIFA Member) reach the final match, the World Cup spot(s) will be allocated to the next best placed team(s).
