A businessman is now admitted as a patient in a private city hospital after he was shot to his left foot during a robbery on Thursday night at Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

The attack occurred around 10.30pm when the businessman, Huang Jian, and his wife, Jheng Shukang, were about to enter their premises, which also houses their business place, Zang’s Window Factory.

After being shot by the two robbers, Jian was rushed to Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital, where he currently remains a patient in a stable condition.

A police source told Stabroek News that investigators are currently checking the area for CCTV footage in hopes of identifying the robbers.

The police, in a statement, said that as the couple were about to enter their home, they were held up by the armed men, who relieved them of a handbag containing US$600. The men escaped after shooting Jian to foot, the statement added.

Stabroek News was told that Jian and his wife were held at gunpoint as they were calling on an occupant in the house to open the door. Upon seeing the door open, Jian reportedly ran from the bandits, who shot him to his foot. When this newspaper visited the scene, the premises were tightly secured, while neighbours refused to comment on the attack.
