Father says can’t remember wounding stepson

Patraj Singh, the father who reportedly wounded his stepson on Sunday night on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, says he cannot remember the events that landed them both in the hospital.
Singh and Jamal Jainarine are currently in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Singh suffered injuries to one of his hands and a foot, which were bandaged, while Jainarine had a bandage wrapped around his head covering the injury he sustained above his ear.
Singh’s wife on Monday explained that their neighbour was making insulting remarks towards her husband and threatening to beat him. She said that while the neighbour continued “provoking” her husband, her son, Jamal Jainarine, entered their home. As he opened the door, she said, Singh pulled a cutlass that was nearby and “fire a chop,” wounding Jainarine. “He thought was the neighbour,” she added. “After my son see the blood, he pick up a cutlass and chop him back and dem two had a scramble,” the wife continued. When Stabroek News spoke with Singh yesterday, he stated that he does not remember what happened on the night and only regained consciousness when he was placed in the hospital ward. “The morning after I ask them nurses, ‘Whey me deh?’ I see me hand and foot in bandage,” he said.

He stated further that the place was dark and he did not see who entered the home. He indicated that he and Jainarine, whom he said is his stepson, have a good relationship and never had a dispute.

Jainarine, when questioned by this newspaper about the events of the night, declined to comment.
They are both expected to be discharged today from the hospital.
