Giftland visitors on Friday, Saturday to pay redeemable $1,000

Visitors to the Giftland Mall will be expected to pay a $1,000 “redeemable concession fee” upon entry on December 23 and 24 respectively.

This is according to Roy Beepat, the Chief Executive Officer of the mall who said the decision to implement the fee is being done solely as a means of alleviating the presence of “holiday limers” at the shopping complex.

He further expressed the belief that the presence of these ‘holiday limers” prevents persons from shopping at the complex in comfortable manner, which, in essence is what he wants customers of the mall to experience.

Nonetheless, he wished to assure potential visitors that the $1,000 paid will be redeemable at any of the stores in the mall.

“Last year we had a lot of people that came to lime. I am sorry but this year you are not invited. To get in the mall during the busy period, there will be a fee of $1,000 and this fee will be redeemable at any store, any concession, any food concession, any cinema, within the mall, you will get your money back, but this is to ensure that people don’t just come here and block up the passageways and entrance for people who are really serious about doing their shopping,” he said.

On the issue of security, the CEO was pleased to announce that additional measures have been put in place to ensure that the mall remains a safe place for all its visitors throughout the busy Christmas season; this, he said, includes the additional parking spaces and police patrols.

Sources say the move comes after concerns about gangs and a fire that was lit in one of the toilets on December 15.
